What could possibly be cooler than the Rhapsody iPhone app? The new and improved Rhapsody iPhone app, of course. We’ve been listening to your requests, heeding your suggestions and leafing through your manifestos on how we can make a good thing even better, and one thing is clear. You want to hear your music everywhere, whether you’re on a plane, in the subway, with a mouse, in a house, in a box or with a fox. Well, you get the idea. No bars? No problem. Strong signal, weak signal or no signal -- soon your Rhapsody music will be able to go ANYWHERE your iPhone or iPod touch goes.
And did we mention that your battery will last longer? Playing downloaded music from the device’s memory instead of streaming it over the carrier or WiFi network saves a ton of battery power. Longer battery life equals more listening and less time recharging. We’re hoping to submit this to Apple for approval very soon, but in the meantime, peep the video of how this feature will work.

Perfect!! Now I don't have to pay for each song like I do with iTunes..
I hope that Apple approves this. Having songs downloaded straight to the iPhone will make it a direct competitor to the iTunes music store. People like me who prefers subscription service will quit buying iTunes music.
Now the important question.......
What bitrate and file type will the downloads be and will they play through devices that give iPods a digital output (ie Wadia iTransport)?
Will we be able to access off-line download tracks even when we have wifi/3g service? I have coverage right now but can almost never get tracks to play on the 3G.
When? When? When?
Is it here yet? How 'bout now? Now?
How about this for the Android!
HEY! You got your great subscription music service in my smartphone! FINALLY!
When I saw this, I jumped over to the Rhapsody Android Preview link which they just updated on the 20th... But sadly still no sign of the offline mode on Android.
Would Apple more readily accept this for the iPhone if it was a competitive feature vs. Android?
Yeah I am so excited about this new app I love rhapsody and I love my itouch now they will work together that is f'ing awsome. Is there a place we can sign up that lets us know when the app is available.
Don't even try contacting Rhapsody support to get info on the release! See below.
NOTE: The phone# at the end wound up being the billing dept!
Joe Jones: Hi, my name is Joe Jones. How may I help you?
Ben Kunkel: Hi Joe,
Joe Jones: Good morning!
Ben Kunkel: any news on the new iphone app that will allow offline playing?
Joe Jones: As I understand, you would like to know if there a subscription which can play offline subscription tracks in Iphone. Is that correct?
Ben Kunkel: Basically, Yes.
Ben Kunkel: What could possibly be cooler than the Rhapsody iPhone app? The new and improved Rhapsody iPhone app, of course. We’ve been listening to your requests, heeding your suggestions and leafing through your manifestos on how we can make a good thing even better, and one thing is clear. Ben Kunkel: This was pulled from this site: http://blog.rhapsody.com/2010/03/offline-listening-for-the-rhapsodyiphone-app-coming-soon.html
Joe Jones: Let me check the link. Please hold on.
Ben Kunkel: no problem
Ben Kunkel: Is there a release date for this?
Joe Jones: I believe that we have an unpublished subscription what we so called the Rhapsody Premium but let me get the resources for the said subscription.
Ben Kunkel: I already subscribe to rhapsody to go. Might I need to upgrade for the compatible iphone app?
Joe Jones: I guess you need to have an upgrade. I'm still searching for the resources at the moment. Please hold on.
Joe Jones: Thank you for patiently waiting. Have you visited this link http://www.rhapsody.com/iphone?
Ben Kunkel: No problem. From what I can tell, the new iphone app will be Rhapsody 1.1, as opposed to Rhapsody 1, which I currently have on my Iphone
Ben Kunkel: I'll check the link, hold on
Joe Jones: We have a new subscription which is called the Rhapsody Premier.
Ben Kunkel: This comment was pulled from the link you just sent: No signal? No problem Coming Soon
The Rhapsody App lets you download any song in the catalog to your iPhone® or iPod touch™ as long as you're a member.
Ben Kunkel: I want to know when "coming soon" is.
Joe Jones: However, you can play your tracks offline.
Joe Jones: Which means that you can download your favorite songs and store it in your Iphone. You can play it without an Internet connection.
Joe Jones: As you can see below. "A Rhapsody subscription and an active Internet connection (WiFi, 3G, or EDGE) with a United States IP address are required for streaming. Downloaded content does not require an Internet connection. Compatible with iPhone and iPod touch (OS 3.0).".
Ben Kunkel: Yes, it's going to be awesome! I wont have to carry my mp3 player around anymore, just my iphone. When will the downloadable content feature be availible? I can stream just fine, both wi fi and 3G.
Joe Jones: It's available now. So if you are going to subscribe to Rhapsody Premier it would enable the download option but you need to make sure that you are using the latest Rhapsody Application for Iphone.
Joe Jones: If you want to subscribe to Rhapsody Premier, please click this link https://realstore.real.com/rhapsody/premier/monthly/14d?rsrc=iphonelp_nonmem. Please remove the dot beside the "nonmem" if you are unable to access the page.
Ben Kunkel: My rhapsody to go subscription won't facilitate this feature? What is the curent version iphone app?
Joe Jones: I'm afraid you need to upgrade your subscription into Rhapsody Premier but it is more economical to upgrade your subscription. Instead of paying $12.99, you will only pay $9.99 for the Rhapsody Premier subscription. Amazing! Isn't it? Please hold on while I check the current version of the Rhapsody Application.
Ben Kunkel: Ok
Joe Jones: May I know the version of your Rhapsody Application?
Ben Kunkel: Rhapsody 1.1.2
Joe Jones: That's the latest version. A follow up information for the downloads.
Joe Jones: You need to have an installed Rhapsody in your computer and authorize your iPhone so you can store subscription tracks.
Joe Jones: If you are going to store subscription tracks in your Iphone, you can play it without an Internet Connection.
Ben Kunkel: Do I need the latest version of Rhapsody for mt computer? What is the latest version, and, can you give me a link to download it?
Joe Jones: Please hold on I need a confirmation about it.
Joe Jones: To obtain the latest version of you Rhapsody software, you need to frequently check for updates. As advised.
Joe Jones: Please try this link http://www.rhapsody.com/-software.
Joe Jones: Remove the dot to access the correct page.
Joe Jones: Are you still there?
Ben Kunkel: yes
Ben Kunkel: hold on,
Joe Jones: Sure. Take your time.
Ben Kunkel: Again, I currently have a Rhapsody To Go membership. You are saying is, When I install the latest Rhapsody software on my computer, I should be able to authorize my Iphone and download content (just as I would with my Sanza Fuze) or, do I need the premium subscrption?

Ben Kunkel: I've got Rhapsody Open now and I'm signed in.
Joe Jones: Okay.
Ben Kunkel: I'll connect my iphne, via USB to the computer to see if the software will recognize my Iphone as a device.
Ben Kunkel: My Iphone is not being recognized in the "source" Section of the software. What now?
Joe Jones: Have you tried right clicking on your Iphone and check for the compatibility mode?
Ben Kunkel: how do I do that?
Joe Jones: Right click on the device icon and then choose "authorize device".
Ben Kunkel: Where is this device icon, that you speak of?
Joe Jones: On the left hand side of your Rhapsody software.

Joe Jones: Okay. Thank you for using Rhapsody Live Chat. It was a pleasure assisting you, and I hope you were satisfied with the experience! Have a great day!
I have had Rhapsody for years now.
It is the best because you can choose what YOU want to listen to when you want to listen to it.
Have the Rhapsody for Iphone and it works great also.
Now when we can download the music to our Iphone for offline listening that would be even 100% better.
Why buy a song for 99 cents that you do not want to listen to anymore a few weeks from now.
With Rhapsody offline you can be constantly keeping your music up to date, keep the classics and trash what gets old.
Long live Rhapsody.
