Geezer Butler's Playlist

Founding Black Sabbath member and current Heaven and Hell bassist Geezer Butler has been an institution in metal music for nearly four decades. With his down-tuned bass and lyrical prowess, he helped change rock 'n' roll. So we were honored to talk music with him and were rendered nearly speechless by his diverse taste. Butler shares some of his favorites on this playlist, which features artists from Buddy Holly and Coldplay to The Sword, Kaiser Chiefs and Alison Krauss and Robert Plant.

Black Mountain, "Wucan"

"I don't know any of the members names, but I like the way the girl singer sings and I just like the whole song anyway, it's a good song musically."

Buddy Holly, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" .

"I love Buddy Holly and it was the fiftieth anniversary of his death [recently]. I think that was the last song he released before he died. So "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" kinda sums it up."

Bobby Vee, "The Night has a Thousand Eyes"

"It's just a good pop song and I've met Bobby Vee and he's a lovely little bloke."

Coldplay, "Viva La Vida"

"I know it's very unfashionable to not like Coldplay, but I think they are good songwriters, Just some really good pop songs."

Skip James, "Devil Got My Woman"

"I love old blues, so I just kick in Skip James. He was one of the first singers and guitarists that I ever learned a song off. I think that was the third song I ever learned."

Kaiser Cheifs, "I Predict a Riot"

"That's one of the few new bands I can relate to now. Because they play their instruments well. They're just good, I saw them live last year and they came over really well."

The Beatles, "Strawberry Fields"

"I could've picked any Beatles song because they're me favorite band ever. "Strawberry Fields" -- sort of towards the end of the Beatles, but it's a great song. (laughs)"

DJ Englebert, "Strategically Located Cameras"

"Because it's so nuts. I love drivin' people mad if they come over to the house or if we're on tour. I play it in me dressin' room to drive everybody nuts."

The Sword, "Freya"

"Really good. They remind me a lot of Sabbath, the way they play and the way their songs are."

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, "Killin' the Blues"

"Last but not least. I love Alison Krauss and obviously I love Robert Plant as well and I'm glad the both of them [got] together. It's a really good album."
