Electioneering08_thumb_4 While staring at his immaculately styled hair or listening to his comforting Southern drawl, you may find yourself coming under the spell of Democratic presidential hopeful, John Edwards. But beware! This is a man who plays fast and loose with the truth! At least in so much as how it relates to John Mellencamp and corporate sponsorship!

On the campaign trail, John Edwards rocks two things: a pledge to be a warrior for the middle class and a commitment to free us from our indentured servitude to our corporate overlords. Which would be awesome ... IF HE WEREN'T USING THE ANTHEM OF THOSE VERY OVERLORDS TO TRY AND ROCK US INTO VOTING FOR HIM!

Edwards has been hitting the campaign trail to the soundtrack of John Mellencamp's "Our Country." It's a pleasant enough piece of folk-rock that might sound familiar to you if you've watched television at all in the last two years. "Our Country" was used (incessantly) by Dodge in a recent, omnipresent advertising campaign. So, it's a bit strange for Edwards to utilize this anthem of Chrysler LLC as his own battle cry.

Last night, after placing a healthy second in the Iowa Caucus, and perhaps connecting the dots between the Mellencamp tune and unemployed U.S. auto workers, Edwards marched on stage to U2's rousing, "Pride (In the Name of Love)." Not bad, except that song was written in honor of the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.! There's plenty of songs in the sea, Johnny! What's wrong with "New Slang" or "Shimmy Shimmy Ya"!? Neither were specifically written for slain civil rights leaders or used as sonic wallpaper by a mega-huge car company that has likely sent many of your prospective supporters to the government-cheese line! Dig deep!
